Product Description

Terry Trackhoe returns with his pals from Jason's construction crew to a new site in Florida's forest, where they work to protect the environment and help people enjoy an improved park.

Terry Trackhoe is no longer the smallest machine at Green Springs Park. Instead, his tiny friend Bob the Skid Loader is, and they make a ruckus through Florida forests, across park grounds, and at water's edge. Rocks and mud fly in all directions wherever this pair goes.

Jason the Boss, Merry Mica, and their construction crew help to rebuild the park after Hurricane Hetta destroyed buildings and boat docks. Another friend Cramer Crane stands tall watching over the St. Luke's River and spring run. Even Lazy Larry works harder than ever.

When a waterski boat speeds too fast near endangered sea cows, the crew comes to the rescue. Bob and Terry find out that swimming isn't so easy, while Savannah the newscaster gets the scoop on all their news.

Terry Trackhoe Goes Swimming is a fictional early chapter book geared for read-aloud to the youngest readers up to self-reading by third- or fourth-graders (8- to 9-years-old). It's supplemented with a glossary and a non-fiction essay about protecting manatees for advanced readers. Target audience is active little boys and their fathers, but mothers and daughters will appreciate the positive roll portrayed by several female characters. Environmental themes are an important part of the story.

Vivid illustrations by Carmelo L. Monti, AIA emeritus bring Terry and his fellow machines alive with action and adventure.
